Research In Motion is a news headliner a few times a week, and it's usually bad press. 2011 was certainly not the year for RIM, but they plan on making a turn around for 2012. So far, RIM looks to be building momentum for their business and products with the debut of BlackBerry PlayBook 2.0 OS at CES 2012 next week, as well as demoing a software build of the new BBX BlackBerry 10 operating system for BlackBerry smartphones at MWC 2012 in February.
We've heard about RIM Co-Chariman Lazaridis and Balsillie set to lose their titles, marking a shift in business maters at RIM. To keep the interest alive, word comes down from Peter Misek, Jefferies & Company analyst, that RIM is looking to license out it's BlackBerry software to manufacturers like Samsung, HTC among others. Could this mean trouble for Android saes with those device manufacturers? Smasung and HTC are the most successful and popular Android devices on the market. It's hard to say whether this will impact their dealings with Android, but it would most likely do nothing but good for RIM and the BlackBerry name.
Peter Misek stated the following regarding the possible new manufacturer partnerships;
We think some of this has already been started with RIM likely agreeing to license Blackberry 10 to Samsung, HTC, and possibly others, this would help create a critical mass for the ecosystem and maintain RIM’s monthly service revenue.
Maybe, just maybe we'll see BlackBerry 10 at MWC 2012 running on a Samsung smartphone.
